This upgrade replaces the SAL-33's Azimuth adjustment screw with a finer thread pitch. The finer pitch gives you more mechanical advantage and lets you make smaller, more precise azimuth moves during polar alignment. This improvement is shipped from batch 2 onward so if you are on batch 2 onward, you don't need this, it's built in.
Batch 1 customers are eligible for a free upgrade kit. You only cover shipping, $35 worldwide. Please place your order using the same email address you used for your original mount purchase.
Shipping timeline: I will ship it as soon as it is ready. We need some time to manufacture the extra plate. I expect to ship in late March to early April. This free upgrade offer is only valid until late March, so if you are in Batch 1 and want the kit, please place your order soon.
How to replace the kit
Remove the screws that secure the bottom plate.
Remove the two azimuth locking screws on the side of the mount. They are installed with thread locker and will require significant force to loosen.
Flip the mount over and remove the screws that hold the azimuth kit in place. These also have thread locker, so use care.
Install the new kit, then reinstall all screws.
Total time is about 10 minutes.
